Film Noir

A photo shoot that I just worked on for school. We were inspired to modernize a 1940s film noir look by the use of shadowed lighting and classy 40's silhouettes, hair and makeup. Love the results!

Fashion's Night Out

Tonight is the second annual Fashion's Night Out, a fashionista's dream of shopping, celebrity spotting, music entertainment, free goodies and so much fun! FNO is an event put on annually, every September 10th by the CFDA and Vogue. Over 200 stores are participating in New York City and its five boroughs alone, while the event has been expanded to countries abroad such as: Australia, Brazil, China, London, Paris, Berlin, Greece, India, Milan, Portugal, Russia, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan and Turkey. FNO began in 2009 as a positive initiative to pull consumers out for the ultimate shopping experience one day a year during the tough economic times and was an instant success. Last year, Alexander Wang designed a collection of printed tees for the New York stores to sell, in which part of the procedes went to the September 11th Charity Fund. This year FNO continues to stand for its good notions, selling t-shirts to raise money for The NYC AIDS Fund in the NY Community Trust. New York City's streets turn into a fashion runway with consumers walking the biggest fashion event of the year. Meet designers, celebrities, participate in fashion-related activities (including this year's "design your own friendship bracelet with Rogan" at Barney's), while munching on snacks provided in many stores along the way. Fashion's Night Out is a global tradition uniting fashion and good deed.

Here is what I've got on my agenda so far:

Pixie-d Potter

Emma Watson recently took on a new look - chopping off her locks into a boyish pixie cut. Now that Watson is taking on more sophisticated roles other than her Harry Potter wizarding stardom, it seems she is imersing herself more and more into her roots of the edgy British fashion scene. However it is more probable that being signed for Burberry's ad campaigns is the reason for Watson's transformation from the actress' typical young Hermione look to model-chic. I really like Watson's change - it is a classy update while still remaining youthful and fun.

Best cupcakes ever!

I-D

I love this spread done for I-D magazine. My favorite part of the spread is the incorporation of the raw hanging light bulb as the only other element in the photographs. I love the black/white contrast and interesting lighting - there is a sense of subtle darkness.

Two of a Kind

I went on the Bloomingdale's website today to find that on their homepage was an advertisement for Donna Karan's "new" interchangable dress. The advertisement read, "The eponymous line focuses on modern, interchangable pieces for the ultimate in chic versitality." I looked twice because not to long ago, I wore a dress exactly the same! For my sister's wedding in May, we had choosen the "Two Birds" classic straight cut dress for the bridesmaids. The dress is exactly the same to Donna Karan's dress that is advertised, with two long straps sewn into the waistline of the skirt for easy convertability. The dress turned out to be a great success... and investment! According to the Two Birds' website, it is "One dress, Over 15 different ways to wear it." It is perfect to dress down for a dinner date or dress up for a cocktail party. Also, the Donna Karan dress retails for about $950, while we paid 1/3 of the price for the Two Birds dress.

Oops. Did I doooo thatttttt?

I came across this "Then & Now" short interview with Jaleel White, better known as Steve Urkel in Family Matters and had to share. Back in the day, I religiously watched Family Matters after school and thought it would be funny to imitate Steve by walking into chairs, knocking objects over, snorting when I laughed and most importantly.. saying "Oops.. did I do thattttt?" in a nasaly, obnoxious voice. Luckily I grew out of that phase.. however, I do still love watching re-runs. "Then & Now" brought back good memories of my childhood Urkel-watching days and got me inspired.. see below.

how can you say no to doggy-paddling pups?

I loved this Moncler ad campaign so I went and checked out their website to see what they are currently selling. I found these adorable striped totes, perfect for the summer trips to the beach. Even though Moncler specializes in winter-gear, they stay true to their word, "for everything about sea level."

How often does this happen?

Today me and my friend, Meg, walked to the Chelsea Galleries all along 26th and 25th streets to go to the opening exhibitions. I had been to the galleries before, but never to the opening night for the artists - It was quite the social scene. I will post about that later, but the story moves on into the Meatpacking District, where I was strolling along and looked up to see Chloë Sevigny cross my path... again... right in front of me. The funniest part about it all was that she was wearing the same exact outfit as the day before - graphic tee and faded skinnies, except her suspenders were now hanging by her knees and simple flip flops replaced her Chanel mules from the day before. How often do you see the same celeb two days in a row.... wearing the same outfit? As my roommate said, "It's good to know she does it too...." (very true.)

Just another day in New York..

Today I met up with two of my friends to satisfy ourselves with delishhh froyo after a hot day in the city. 16 Handles was the place of choice for many reasons.. well, it has sixteen flavors to choose from, you fill the cup yourselves with the variety of froyo / toppings, and the low-fat/ sugar-free signs always make you feel better so that you can put extra chocolately delicious toppings on since your not eating as many calories from the yogurt. I'm going overboard with the froyo talk, but to make a long story short.... We headed outside to to the St. Marks Church square, come to find out that a movie was shooting. We obviously snooped around and watched until we recognized someone.. Ginnifer Goodwin was acting for the movie Something Blue, based on the NY Times Bestselling book series by Emily Giffin. We were watching them slowly shoot the same scene over and over again for a while, then out of nowhere came Chloë Sevigny walking on to the set to hug Ginnifer. She sat in the VIP tent with all the "directors" chairs lined up, just to watch the shoot. Anyways, it was an exciting surprise so I attemped to capture the moment with my Blackberry, (it didn't go so well), but here is some documentation anyways!
Just hanging out on set..

Chloë wears a graphic tee tucked into faded skinny jeans, suspenders and Chanel mule clogs.
Ginnifer wears a green floral sundress, black flats... and a brunette wig! (costume)

Penelope

Another reason why I love to come home.. to see my love of all loves... Penelope (aka - Penny!)

Home, Sweet Home...

I am back home for the long weekend. It always feels so nice to be home away from the city, not to say that I do not love New York for all that it has to offer. Both places are bittersweet - when I'm home for a while, I want NY.. when I'm in Manhattan, I want home. Lately, since school has ended, I have gotten the perfect balance of both worlds. Here is a bit of home to share with you...
